September 27 – 28
One might think of Pinot Noir as Oregon’s favorite drink; not so fast! The 16th annual Portland Fresh Hops Festival returns to Oaks Amusement Park with collaboration beers from farmers and breweries, conversations with innovative brewers, early-entry ticket opportunities, live music, and food carts, all paired with 50+ fresh hop beers from Oregon. Why hop multiple breweries when the “hopping” can come to you, all in one spot?
Cruise and peruse many of Oregon’s finest brews, from Pale Ales, IPAs, Reds, Blonde Ales, and Pilsners to the solitary Märzen, prime for Oktoberfest! A few participating brewery names include Rock Bottom Brewery (Space Potato IPA), Pelican Brewing (Carronade Fresh Hop Pale Ale), Deluxe Brewing (Fresh Hop Pilsner), Sasquatch Brewery (“Hey I Just Met You And This Is Hazy” Hazy IPA), Mazama Brewing (Green Magic Fresh Hop Pale Ale), and dozens more!
Features include “The Cone Wars,” a new, friendly competition of Oregon’s world-class hop farms and Oregon brewies paired off to craft a fresh hop beer (the crowd votes for the best). “Bines and Brewers” on the festival’s Friday evening brings firsthand stories from brewers who discuss the paths and pitfalls of brewing on the spot with fresh hops. Saturday, Sept. 28 noon-5 p.m. only allows minors and adults. There will be a small children’s play area at the festival (and of course, there’s an amusement park right next door!). There’s also tasty craft root beer from Double Mountain Brewery!
The festival hours are Friday, Sept. 27, 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 28, noon to 8 p.m. Find Oaks Amusement Park at 7805 SE Oaks Park Way, Portland (a little over five miles from The Benson Hotel).
